"This is a beautiful cottage. It is tucked away in a rural location, surrounded by far-reaching views and lots of wildlife. Despite the rustic exterior, the inside of the cottage is very well kitted out and easy to heat. There are nice little extras too, such as books, DVDs and board games. We met both Rita and Mark who were very welcoming, helpful and friendly hosts. They even greeted us with a bottle of wine on arrival. Pretty villages and walks nearby. Would highly recommend and will certainly return."

"We had a wonderful time the cottage was clean warm and well presented. We met Rita and her husband Mark and they couldn't have been more pleasant. There is a paddock which we could let our 2 dogs run in and there are plenty of walks to do, albeit rained a lot, an awful lot bit it was great to come back to a warm and inviting home from home. Having read the visitor book we could only find good reports. Well done Rita don't change a thing "

"Having read the previous review I had some slight concerns ahead of our stay, however the minute we arrived these concerns instantly evaporated. As you approach the cottage along the drive, you can see that it is a very tidy and well kept building within beautiful surroundings. The owner greeted us following our arrival and we found her to be both pleasant and helpful. We attended the cottage prepared with groceries and milk, I have no expectation that any of these items should be provided during your stay. With it being the middle of winter it is obviously very cold and the heating did seem to struggle to keep the cottage heated (it is an old building). That said we were always comfortable and just had to keep an eye on it at night with us having a young child. The cottage is quite a way from the main road and I imagine it will be difficult to get out of or into if there is snow. Thankfully during our stay there was no snow and just a little ice which made for some twitchy moments getting out onto the main B road! Inside the cottage there is everything you need, however there is no O2 phone signal (Vodaphone is available). There is Sky TV available, however during our stay there was only one channel working which was either due to the weather or the dish needs to be realigned by an engineer. All in all it was a very enjoyable stay and we would go there again."

"Lovely cottage with stunning views from every window. Beautiful, quiet location. Local village 3 miles away at Llanrhaeadr Ym Mochnant, where you can get a delicious meal at the Plough Inn, a gorgeous, very friendly pub, highly recommended. Nearby is Lake Vyrnwy, a brilliant place for walks catering for different abilities, fantastic for dog walking. There are toilet facilities and 2 cafes. Llangollen is also close by again great for walking along the canal, or boat rides pulled by large horses, they were very popular on the days we were there. Llangollen has a large array of shops, eating places and banks. Oswestry is also close by, again a nice shopping centre and very friendly, lots of churches here to visit. Large supermarkets to stock up with. Petrol station on the A483 before the Oswestry turn off. The reasons for the poor rating of the holiday is the lack of secure space to allow dogs to have any space to run other than in the cottage. Many other reviews mentioned space for this, but when the owner was politely asked about this she stated that that wasn't the case and she was going to have a word with Sykescottages to have it removed!! she was in fact very rude, which, she did apologise for the following day, and said we could use one area. We did on one occasion only to be closely observed doing it, so that was the only time we did. The photo of the cottage doesn't show the very close proximity of the owner house which is right behind the cottage, which usually isn't a problem. She had told us that she kept her Huskey dog in a cage in the house, so maybe she thought that dogs didn't require exercise? She also complained about previous holiday makers, letting the dog/dogs up the stairs in the cottage. In fact she was just an unpleasant woman. I wouldn't normally complain about the fact that there was no milk on arrival. But it is a 6 mile round trip to the nearest shop. The only things left where some 4 days out of date coissants and 1cm of washing up liquid. We ran out of toilet paper and had to buy washing up liquid, washing powder, and hand soap for the kitchen and bathroom. The grill wasn't working which she did tell us about, that previous people had broken. It turns out that the fridge only worked intermitently, and was full of cracks no doubt harbouring lots of pathogenic bacteria as it wasn't that clean. The DVD wasn't working. And to keep the place clean she had left a small dustpan and brush, which other people had recommended. Every year for the past 7 years I have taken at least a 1/2 week UK break and I have loved each and every one of them until this one. I can't believe the previous reviews are about the same place, although I'm sure they didn't get the barrage of complaints from the owner about previous holiday makers all within minutes of meeting her. Not a nice welcome at all. Overall we felt unwelcome and so we actually left before the end of the weeks stay."

"Excellent property, had everything we needed for our weekend away. Once we had located the property everything was fine. Mobile phone signal is a big issue in the area. This could be viewed as a positive or a negative, but if you need the phone to contact the owners to guide you in, it is a problem...as I discovered. Though I did notice that there are still quite a few phone boxes around the area, so take some change, just in case! Arriving independently we both had issues actually finding the cottage, which is not visible from the road. But once we did everything was just right. The house was warm and welcoming, with everything we might need to hand. The only thing we missed was a dishwasher, but that is not a criticism, just an observation. Our dogs had a wonderful time too, though we did move all the cushions out of their reach! Just too much temptation for a good tug of war! All in all a great place for an away from it all break, on the doorstep of breathtaking scenery/countryside. Thank you for a great weekend."
