Reviews of Felin Ship

"This cottage is close to town but quiet and tranquil. The presentation of both the cottage and garden is immaculate, and the added dimension of the river at the foot of the garden gives more of an impression of a countryside retreat. It is possible to walk out of the premises and be in a well-stocked supermarket or beautiful open countryside in just a few minutes. For those inclined to be active there are plenty of walks nearby, and bike storage on site. After a day in the country visitors will surely appreciate the superbly comfortable beds. Altogether a great place to stay."

"Immaculate gardens and a lovely riverside location where you can watch the Heron and other birds drop in. The house itself is very well presented with just about everything you need for a short stay. There is internet if you need it and mobile reception is adequate too. It is on two levels with a spiral staircase - the stairs might be daunting for some but you can always nip out the kitchen door and come back in through the front. It would not however suit someone whose mobility is limited. The location is ideal, being on the edge of town, so it's quiet, but only a short walk to shops pubs and restaurants with which Dolgellau is well served. The road entrance could be a bit daunting, visibility is approximately zero, the two big mirrors are vital, you just have to remember that, to get visibility to your right you use the left mirror and vice versa. Rowland the owner lives next door and is only a door knock away if you need him. He is friendly and personable, don't be put off by the thorough Health and Safety briefing - he's a lawyer so he takes that sort of stuff very seriously. Once thats over he relaxes visibly, there are guide books and maps aplenty to help you plan your stay. . This would be suited either as a base to set out and explore the many attractions of North Wales or as a bolt hole, to just sit by the river and chill."

"We have had a wonderful week staying in this very special place. Felin Ship is an extremely comfortable, well-managed holiday cottage. It is well-equipped, but unfussy and has been furnished and styled to a very high standard. However, it is its riverside position that really makes it outstanding. Although positioned just outside Dolgellau, when you're sitting in the extensive and beautiful gardens, watching the river burble by and, in the evening, cattle and sheep coming down to drink you feel miles from anywhere. It's just a gorgeous setting. Roland, the owner and host is extremely helpful, friendly and informative. He ensures that you understand how to make best use of the cottage, but is unobtrusive thereafter. We did enjoy chatting with him though. He has provided many useful guide books to help you plan your time here. We booked directly with Roland which we found very straightforward. He was always quick to respond to our enquiries. Looking at the pictures you will see that there is a spiral staircase leading upstairs from the lounge. Some people might be nervous about this, but we did not find it at all problematic. In all, we had a a really relaxing, comfortable week at Felin Ship and we are hoping to return to this very special cottage. Thank you so much Roland. "

"Nice few days at Felin Ship but there are a couple of things that prevent me from giving it 5 stars. Upon arrival it is very much made clear that you are staying in the house of the owner, and with a strict regimented tour of the grounds and cottage one is left feeling somewhat intimidated and a feeling of intrusion. One is reminded of this when reading the welcome book with rules and regulations and seeing the numerous printed labels. The guest accomodation lacks homely feel and the sitting room, which is linked to the owners cottage by a internal door, combined with the office blinds and abundance of leaflets makes the space feel more like a doctors surgery waiting room than a place to relax. It is decorated however to a good standard and holds good furniture, however as of december 2017 the bedrooms didnt have any kind of heating which was countered by a lovely tog 3000 duvet which was if anything too warm but any uncovered body part felt the cold of the night. Taller people may struggle in bed as they have foot plates on which calls for some contorsion of the legs. Location 5/5 Cottage 3/5 Ground 5/5 Owner hospitality 2/5 It is with sad regret but the owners nature did let it somewhat leaving the group feel uncomfortable, though reading other more positive reviews, this may well be just our group. I hope you have a better experience. NOT a place for muddy mountain bikers!!"

"Within walking distance of the town of Dolgellau. Modern, compact, partial upside down accommodation, with the single living room downstairs and kitchen upstairs with x3 bedrooms, all with modern furnishings. The spiral staircase from the living room to the upstairs could be an issue for the infirm although my dad who's has early Parkinson's managed it. Roland is an attentive host, which is also demonstrated with his attention to detail throughout the cottage. The cottage has a lovely setting on the banks of a river with a mature garden and trees. The garden runs down to the river with a BBQ and benches. Roland has a modest bird feeding station attracting quite a variety of birds which is slowly adding to his garden list. This cottage had all the usual amenities one would expect and need. Really enjoyed our stay."

"This gem of a cottage was perfect. Set in a lovely garden with river views. Every facility is provided and the house is really comfortable. The furnishings are top quality and the beds so comfortable I haven't slept that well in months. The house is just a few minutes' walk from the pretty town of Dolgellau, with an excellent range of places to eat and good sized supermarkets for everyday supplies. The house is really easy to reach and we explored all over North East Wales. The owner is very welcoming and helpful and made our visit really enjoyable. He has great ideas of things to do. If you filled all the beds then sitting down to a meal together would be a bit cosy and the spiral staircase might be an issue for some but we (including my mum in her 70s) had a great time and were really comfortable. We would definitely stay here again."

The cottage is very clean and beds are very comfortable. Well equipped and wonderful fluffy towels. This is a superb location, which we were able to access all the sights very easily and without having to travel for miles. Owner helpful and able to answer any questions."

"We had a really nice week - this cottage is in a great location overlooking a lovely river and countryside, with an immaculately kept garden going down to the rivers edge with a BBQ area by the riverside. There is not another building or road in sight, however it is just on the edge of town and really conveniently situated for the shops, supermarket and restaurants - everything is just a few minutes walk away. We could not fault the location or cottage in any way. There is a lot to do in the area; the Mawddach trial leading to Barmouth is lovely to walk or cycle, there are many mountain walks and mountain biking at Coed y Brenin. The local beaches are also lovely. The owner who lives next door was particularly helpful, he has a great knowledge of local walks and places to visit."
