Location

Distyll is a welcoming single storey property on the owners' smallholding a mile from Ruthin. There is a bedroom which can be offered as a king-size double or a twin room. There is a bathroom with bath and shower cubicle, a kitchen with dining area and a sitting room. Outside are lovely gardens with a stream, off road parking, and access to walking paths, some of which take you right down into Ruthin itself. Distyll makes an ideal base for those looking for a peaceful escape within easy reach of amenities and attractions.

Ruthin has its origins in the 13th Century and was a popular market-town. Evidence of its long and illustrious history can be found in the beams and brickwork in buildings throughout the town. Pendref Chapel is Ruthin's oldest chapel, dating back to around 1827. Other impressive medieval buildings include Maen Huail, where, according to legend, Huail was beheaded for trying to scupper King Arthur's quest for true love. In addition to sites of historical interest, many of the pubs and inns in Ruthin have their own tales to tell, such as the 16th Century Myddleton Arms; the site of many cock-fights and having an unusual window arrangement known locally as ‘the eyes of Ruthin'. Other attractions near to Ruthin include the striking ruins of Denbigh Castle and Valle Crucis Abbey, which dates back to the 13th Century.

Famous for its choirs, stunning mountain ranges and beautiful valleys, this wonderful country has something for everyone. From Snowdonia in North Wales to the Brecon Beacons and the Pembrokeshire Coast in the South.

Reviews of Distyll

"We regularly stay in cottages for short breaks and recently stayed at Distyl for the first time. We chose this place as pet friendly and on the doorstep of Ruthin which is a charming little place. Cottage was immaculately clean and very well laid out and warm!! The owners were very friendly and welcoming, made you feel at home. We had snow and ice so made use of Sky movies and sports when we weren't reading. There is a 40 min circular walk from the cottage (map in cottage) which was ideal for a quick dog walk. Lots formal walks nearby too inc Llyn Brenig and Loggerheads. Only negatives are the WiFi which is very weak and intermittent (weak signal and only in living room) and is advertised as having a washing machine but this is actually in owners own house. Looking forward to going again. "

"We only had 2 nights in the cottage but we loved it. On arrival the owners were warm, friendly and relaxed and we felt at home right away. The cottage is really well appointed and the bed is large and comfortable. Our dogs loved it too, with the woods just a 2 minute walk up the lane - follow the maps that Bev will explain!! Ruthin is a nice old town to have a wander round and on the very clear night we had you could see an amazing star scape across the sky. We relaxed, we just stopped for a while after a very hectic few weeks and months and we would definitely return."

"This cottage is absolutely wonderful. Every room was tastefully furnished and so very comfortable. There were so many extra little touches that made our stay so enjoyable. Daisy my brown Labrador especially enjoyed the tray of dog biscuits waiting for her! We relaxed from the moment we arrived Bev and Phil the owners were so very helpful and their beautiful dog Annie and cats Will and Flossy were a joy. Not forgetting the sheep waiting for you at the bottom of the garden! (Behind a fence). It is such a relaxing location and so close to great dog walks where you are more then likely going to be the only ones there. We did not want to leave and will most certainly return. The place is so beautiful and I look forward to returning in the Spring or Summer. Do not hesitate in booking this cottage, it really is outstanding."
