Reviews of Strathisla

"Strathisla is lovely, cosy cottage. An extremely well-equipped home from home. The garden is nice and we liked the steam railway running past the cottage. It's in a great location for exploring the local area on foot or further afield by car. The Broadband/wifi connection is good. The owners are very friendly and helpful. We would go back."

"A peaceful weeks stay in a beautifully presented cottage. Felt like home the entire time we were there. The Strathspey rail line runs right next to the house - Fantastic if you or the kids like steam trains (But don't let the proximity put you off, there's only a few trains each week). Plenty of space for parking and an enclosed garden which is not overlooked allows for a lot of time to be spent lounging in the Scottish sun, weathet permitting. On a side note, plan petrol in advance - The petrol station in Aviemore is currently closed and the closest is 15 miles away. "

"This is a cosy cottage in a great location. It has a well-equipped kitchen and the open fire gave the children lots of fun toasting marshmallows. We also enjoyed watching the steam train going past the cottage. The second toilet was very handy. This was our third stay at Strathisla and we will definitely be back again."

It was great to see the steam train going past the house, brought back memories of our childhoods. Aviemore has good facilities within easy walking distance."

"Great cottage located about fifteen minutes walk from the centre of Aviemore. The location is ideal for those who wish to walk into the town centre for a few drinks in the evening. The cottage is also ideally based for driving into town. The cottage itself is very well maintained and very clean and tidy. It has everything you could need for a very enjoyable week. There was more than sufficient cutlery, linen, towels and tea towels etc for every eventuality. Aviemore itself is an ideal base for visitors to the Highlands with loads of local amenities and a great base for hill climbing and country walking. The nearby Rothiemurchus estate also has lots of facilities for those who would like to try something more adventurous. I would highly recommend Strathisla to anyone."

"A really cosy, well thought out cottage in an ideal location for exploring the surrounding area. We travelled with our two young children aged 5 and 2 who loved the open fire, snuggly blankets & hot water bottles provided. The cottage had everything we needed, it was lovely & warm after a cold day on the mountains. A short walk into Aviemore and right next to the steam railway line, lovely little gardens to play in & shed for storage of ski's/sledges etc. Lots to do nearby, the bridge inn has fab food & a roaring fire, we spent many an evening playing dominos here. Nearby, Loch En Eilien is a fantastic walk for little legs we encountered rain, sun, hail & even a rainbow on our adventure round (approx 3.5 mile). I would definately reccomend Strathisla to other families, a home from home."

"Having searched extensively for good value, dog and family friendly self-catering accommodation in the Cairngorms, we certainly came up trumps with this one! The bungalow is super-cosy. We enjoyed a roaring log fire every night after a day exploring the stunning surrounds. The house is well equipped and beautifully furnished. Reading through the visitors book, we weren't the only ones to fall for the super-comfy sofas! We have been coming to this area for years and the house is perfectly located for the local amenities and still on the doorstep of some great walks and attractions. We have 4 and 5-year-old boys so it goes without saying that seeing the steam train go past out of their bedroom window has left them wanting to come back! We cannot recommend Strathisla highly enough and will certainly be coming back again. Thanks Allison and family! "
