Kilmartin itself has a museum and visitor centre, two castles and a variety of shops providing all amenities for visitors. Eight miles away the town of Lochgilphead has a choice of cafes, craft shops, and other stores. Loch Awe is the longest inland loch in Scotland and there are some lovely walks around the loch and fishing is also available. This area is a super base to discover the joys of this stunning part of Scotland.

From the lush green farmlands of the Borders to the ruggedness of the Highlands, the Scots are proud of their land and identity. Scotland also has some of Britain's best beaches with glorious stretches of clean sand over which to roam.

Reviews of Bluebell Cottage

"So much to enjoy about this 7 day break away from our busy home/city lives. The wildlife (my daughter felt like she was on the set of the Peter Rabbit film), the spectacular views of Loch Awe and the general peace and tranquillity of the area. Add to that a lovely spacious cottage with the bonus of the loch-side cabin and you have a very happy family. Simone and Ian (the owners) were incredibly helpful and accommodating. We arrived to home made scones & bread and some delicious strawberry jam. They provided us with bird and squirrel food to keep the daily visitors to the decking area happy. Watching these daily visitors took up the first 1-2 hours of each morning and it was a real privilege to get so close to the red squirrels. We also did a spot of fishing (fishing tackle provided by Ian) off the private loch-side pontoon which we had access to. Spent the last evening on the pontoon taking in the natural beauty and magnificence of the loch...and also in hope of spotting a pair of local nesting Ospreys. Bluebell cottage is the perfect place to switch off and unwind!"

"We wanted a remote area and got it. The B road to the cottage is a single track road with passing places and is situated 14 miles around Loch Awe one way and 7 miles from the other end. The cottage is gorgeous. We particularly liked the wood burner, two bathrooms, cosiness, and bird table in clear view. I liked having a daily cuppa at the table watching the birds, red squirrels and rabbits on the veranda. On arrival we were greeted with scones and jam and the friendly and very helpful owners provided bird food, fishing tackle, an abundance of logs and useful information. The area is beautiful and the short walk to the private area of the Loch with the jetty and summer house makes it extra special. Not one complaint or niggle from us, everything made our holiday very relaxing."

"Spent a week here, last week in June 2014. Weather was good; except for the 'midges' but that was a minor irritation. It's quite a long drive down a single track road, alongside the loch, to reach there but the cottage is well worth it. The cottage is well laid out, spacious and comfortable. Owner's property overlooks the place but apart from a visit from Simone when we arrived they did not bother us at all. There are no really 'local shops', nearest is about 7 - 10 miles away, so you need to go prepared for the first day or so. The area is beautiful and enjoyed several days out whilst there. One downside for me was the lack of an internet connection at the property and out of our party of 4 I was the only one who had no trouble with mobile phone signal (Vodafone). That said I would recommend the cottage to anyone."

During the day, especially in the morning hours, we could watch lots of little birds and red squirrels eating some peanuts provided for them. Also, fishing was possible on a separate place of land and jet, that the owners are holding."

Although we have stayed in this area before, we enjoyed revisiting places e.g. Gigha, Loch Avich, Arduaine and finding new ones especially Kilmartin, Crinan Canal area. The Autumn colours around Loch Awe were beautiful."

"Cottage was well equipped with every amenity you would need. Electric heating, etc was reasonably priced. The beds and pillows were the best I have ever slept in apart from my own. The journey from the main road at each end was a 13 mile nightmare down a single track road with bends and no lighting, which made night time driving a nightmare, and a good 20mins. The most dissapoointing aspect was that from the websites pictures I was expecting the Loch and the Jetty to be the views from the cottage. This was not so as the jetty was a 1/2 mile down the road, and the views were of 2 other cottages at the front and the woodland from the back."

"This is by far the best cottage we have stayed in in Scotland. The cottage is very spacious and clean in a very quiet and tranquil area. The owners were great, they let us know they were available if needed. One of the good features can also be a disadvantage its very isolated down a very winding single track road, 15 miles in one direction and 9 in the other. If you have good weather and want to spend time around the cottage and the loch you couldn't find a better cottage, but if you want to explore the local area everywhere is a long drive away and the single track road becomes a little tiresome. We had a car breakdown and the closest car rental that would deliver the car was in Edinburgh so it took 2 days to arrive. One tip is to ensure you have a Vodafone or an O2 (not as good) as there is very poor phone reception. A great cottage if you like quiet but a little too isolated for us."
