Reviews of Ballyglass Thatched Cottage

"Ballyglass cottage provided a wonderful experience for my family during our stay in Ireland. It is secluded and quiet, yet not far from many local attractions. The cottage itself is excellently appointed reflecting the love, care and tireless effort required to reproduce a traditional cottage to modern standards. The cottage provides many activities such as cycling and board games which helped keep my children active and engaged. A wonderful slice of traditional Irish life"

"Ballyglass Thatched Cottage fulfilled all our criteria for a relaxing couple break with our elderly dog. For us it was perfect, a traditional but beautifully modernised stone thatched cottage tucked away down narrow lanes and surrounded by fields. The cottage was an excellent base for exploring the surrounding towns, villages and attractions. Particular highlights were the Arigna Mining Experience, Belvedere House and Strokestown Park and Famine museum. It was a pleasure to return each evening where our exhausted hound could stretch out in front of the stove. The kitchen was well equipped with all the essentials required for cooking proper meals at the end of the day. Most importantly the bed was comfortable and we both slept extremely well. We only used the downstairs bedroom but had we had children with us they would have been delighted with the spiral staircase and ladder to the beds in the rafters above us. The yard would not have been secure for a small lively dog but our ancient boy was contained and pottered happily. We met the owner Mr Fallon who was warm, friendly and welcoming and checked we were settled and happy. If you are looking for a cosy cottage away from the bustle of everyday life I would highly recommend a visit to Ballyglass Thatched Cottage. "

"A great place to stay, I used it as a fishing base as lough ree is just a few miles away. plenty of space in the yard for keeping a boat and out-buildings for storing tackle, also there is a large wash room with a machine in it which was handy. inside the cottage is very cosy and everything is there for you. Will be back again soon 10/10."

"Great homely feel to the cottage. On arrival it was clear the owner took a great deal of pride in the presentation, as it was very clean and had all the amenities as described prior to arrival. Garden was great for our dog to stretch his legs first thing in the morning and both outbuildings contained all you need for a week away. I will certainly be coming back and would recommend to anyone looking for a clean and homely cottage with that personal touch. "

"The cottage was perfect for our get away to find our family roots in the beautiful countryside of Ireland. It was like taking a step back in time, while still having all the creature comforts at your disposal! The owner and his family did a beautiful job with the restoration. It was an amazing find for us. We were given a print out to bring along with 40 pages worth of information and a number to call just in case they left something out. You are made to feel welcome in their home and it makes you want to return. There are 40 acres to explore and all they ask is that you close the gates behind you as you enter. So whether you live in the busy cities in Ireland and just want a quiet retreat or you want a getaway from another country, to the country, this is perfect."

"What a perfect place to stay. Our four daughters loved sleeping up in the lofts, it was true country living. We all loved watching all the sheep across the road and we made a lot of day trips under two hours visiting several castles and tourist attractions. The owner was delightful to talk to. Ireland was absolutely gorgeous. We would definitely recommend this rental to others. It was very affordable and we made very special memories as a family."

"Loved that it was represented exactly as shown in the pictures and as described! There were little quirky things that made us feel truly in the country in a beautifully restored-but-old cottage! Once you learn how to turn everything on, everything works beautifully, and we love the conservation that they expect (because we are 'green' people). The owners couldn't have been friendlier, and were an absolute DELIGHT to meet and talk to. Great location for us! Day trips within easy reach, the cottage serene and so peaceful. Would definitely do it again!"

"We are just back after spending few nights in this beautiful cottage. We loved everything there, staring from outside - very spacious parking, nice garden, bench, table and chairs you could use in a nice day. The views from windows were stunning. Cottage was very clean, cosy, lovely decorated, very comfortable well equipped and easy to hit up. There were 2 sheds with freezer washing machine and most importantly bikes! We use them alot as the roads around are so quiet and safe. Overall I would definitely recommend that cottage to everyone and I wish I will come back there again. Kate and family "

"Just returned home today, 29th June, after a weeks holiday. Quaint 150yr old cottage with deep walls, lovingly restored by the Fallon family. Set in farmland on traditional Irish narrow roads. We had also taken our chocolate labrador with us. Whilst pets are not allowed in the ground floor bedroom, there was plenty of room in the lounge area for her kennel. Great raised grass area for her to run about in. Traditional cottage with 3foot walls so no mobile signal inside, No WiFi either. But then you are going away on holiday to get away from all the daily bombardments of life. The "upstairs" bedrooms would be idel fro grown up children, as one is accessed via a spiral staircase and the other by a wooden ladder, which needs to be pulled out in to the living room, (no handrails).. The basics are there; tv with satelite (takes a bit of getting used to the setup on use.) microwave, cooker (again takes a bit to get used to the set up), fridge. 2 outsheds; 1 stores bikes and fishing gear for your use. The other has an outside toilet, freezer and the washing machine. It also houses the oil boiler, which means it is constantly warm, (good for drying clothes). Whilst the owners farm is next door, you never see them. The narrow "Irish" roads take getting used too,but the locals will stop to let you pass, and are always friendly,(which is more than can be said for most motorists). The only down side would be the signposts for the cottage - they are small and easily missed on the trees at the road junctions - but once the roads have been travelled a while you get to know where to turn. Definately one to keep for future use."
