Renowned in the 1800s for the salting of Atlantic fish, today the town retains strong links with the ocean, boasting an excellent harbour and a superb marina offering sailing, trout and salmon fishing and deep-sea angling opportunities.

"We had a very enjoyable stay in The Slate House which is well located on the Ring of Kerry. We really appreciated the great amount of interior space, especially as we had 2 rainy days. The house is equipped with everything you could think of and more (our teenagers give full marks to WiFi and Netflix)."
