Today, the village consists of many holiday homes, several pubs - some of which offer live Irish music - a lovely beach which is popular amongst swimmers and surfers, and a nine-hole golf course - one of the oldest in Ireland. Just three miles away is the small town of Miltown Malbay, providing a selection of shops and pubs, whilst the seaside town of Lahinch is also close by. Visitors can enjoy the Cliffs of Moher - located to the north of Lahinch - which offer superb views of the North Atlantic and the Aran Islands in clear weather.

County Clare has so much on offer; boat trips, quirky pubs, seaside resorts and a great tradition for Irish music, all set amidst spectacular scenery such as the towering Cliffs of Moher and the fascinating landscape of The Burren.

Reviews of Ceol Na Mara

"We have travelled a good amount through the world (eg: Kenya, Maldives, Goa, Bali, Florida to name a few), and whilst we have many places we would like to go again we never have because there are so many places left to visit - until now! Never have we felt so comfortable, never so welcome (both by the owners and the Irish people), never so relaxed, never so much to do if we can drag ourselves away from 'home'. Add to that the view, the sound of the sea (Ceol Na Mara appropriately translates as music of the sea), places to eat and shop nearby but not on the doorstep, etc., and we found so much perfection that we have already decided to return next year, probably for 2 weeks. I could write a whole chapter in praise but read all the other positive reviews - there is no need to repeat them they are all true and cover it well. To be a genuine review it has to find a negative somewhere, so after much pondering I would say that the en-suite rooms are a bit small but that is about as nit-picking as you can get! Things to do, places to go - in a week we only scratched the surface - magnificent scenery in all directions (we visited The Burren, Loop Head, Cliffs of Moher, all spectacular), horse riding, fishing, golf etc. etc, several towns around with varied shopping at reasonable prices, fuel for the car within 2 miles (Diesel cheaper than UK), Supermarkets, and above all restaurants. A warning though - if you want to go to a restaurant make very sure that you are hungry first - the helpings seem to cater for the USA market!"

"It has been a couple months ago but Ireland is still fresh in our minds. We landed in Dublin and moved to the west-coast to find one of the best locations we have ever been, Ceol Na Mara. We were welcomed by Sheila, a very kind and lovely owner of the place who made us feel home instantly. We were amazed by the view of the Atlantic Ocean, which starts at the end of the backyard. The cottage has everything you need and feels very comfy! Raymond joined us later and invited us on the first day to join them to a real Irish pub where their son would play music. We had a wonderful evening, and we could even drink a pint or two because Raymond was driving! In the area there are lots of locations to visit. The Cliffs of Moher are within a 20 minute drive and if you go in the evening you can see the beautiful sunset for free! Also The Burren and all the historical sites are a must see. Down to the south, Kilkee opens up its cliffs which are as beautiful as the Cliffs of Moher but has a lot less tourists. Thank you Sheila and Raymond for your kindness and the location! On the last evening we did visit them in their house and talked the whole evening about everything, with a cup of tea and and cookies. If we go to Ireland, we will surely visit you again!"

"My husband and I have just spent a week in beautiful Spanish Point and were so lucky to have found Ceol na Mara, the most perfect location in which to stay. The house itself is spotlessly clean, fully equipped and so comfortable. The garden is a huge bonus, just a beautiful oasis in which to enjoy the spectacular views of the Atlantic Ocean, cliffs and even the Aran Islands and all whilst enjoying a glass of wine on your own patio. What more could you ask for! Except that there is, the owners themsevles. Such friendliness and hospitality is hard to find, but definitely not at Ceol na Mara. Just perfect!"

"This is one of, or perhaps even the BEST cottage I've stayed in in Europe. The most spectacular views are non-stop with the front yard stretching to the cliff top of the Atlantic, it's centrally located on the west coast, so for touring each day (as we did), it's a prime location to access many of Irelands "things to see". The cottage is immaculately clean, and has everything you could possibly need. Our hosts, Raymond and Sheila were two of the friendliest people I have ever met, and were very helpful in planning our day trips with directions and suggestions on the "must see" list. I fully plan to return someday, and will make Ceol Na Mara our home when we do."

"This beautifully and generously furnished cottage was beyond our expectations! The views of the Atlantic from the master bedroom and sitting room, the distant sound of the crashing waves, sitting out in the evening in our own outdoor sitting area was magical! Our hosts, Sheila and Raymond, live in the attached cottage and could not be more accommodating without being overbearing. Warm and generous with their time and very knowledgable. Perfect place to relax and unwind. We have traveled through Ireland on many visits. We made day trips to Kerry, Galway and of course, Clare. The Cliffs of Moher are only a short drive away. Just lovely! Will definitely be back! USA"

"Thank you so much for the lovely time we spent at Ceol Na Mar! The owners are so welcoming and did everything to make us feel at home. The property is stunning with a perfect view of the ocean. With little kids you could definitely enjoy the ponies as well, and of course Spot the donkey! From the house you can drive up and down the West Coast and get to see Ireland at its finest. Some major tourist-attractions are perfectly suited for a day-trip! Well, as you can read, we enjoyed our stay and recommend it to everybody!"

"Ceol Na Mara is cosy cottage on Spanish Point (a short drive to Lahinch). The owners couldn't be friendlier or more helpful. It is small but perfectly formed with each bedroom having its own en-suite shower room and a really well equipped kitchen. There is a lovely view out to the Atlantic ocean and a beautiful well-tended garden. Although small kids would need to be supervised, the garden (with swings and goals) was ideal for our 2 kids (8 and 10). It's a 10-15 walk to the Armada Hotel and other places to eat out in Spanish Point. The only downside is that wifi is only available outside, which isn't great if it's raining or you want to use a laptop."

"My girlfriend and I stayed at Ceol Na Mara at Spanish Point and had a wonderful time. The cottage itself has been well looked after and provided all the essentials we needed for our break. The cottage is located next to the sea, with sea views from the living room across the garden; these views are stunning in the evening when the sun is setting out west. What we appreciated the most about our stay here was the warm hospitality we received from the owners of the cottage; they provided essential guidance on the best way to see Clare, helped us out when we needed it, took us on an night out to an Irish pub (was a great night) for all this we are very grateful. I would definitely recommend Ceol Na Mara as a place to stay to see the natural beauty of west Ireland and Clare. "
