Reviews of Old Hay Barn

"Had a weekend here with for 7 friends. The cottage is beautiful and great for a large group to socialise. The hot tub is lovely and the extra touches really make you feel welcome. The cottage has everything you could need for a relaxing stay and Amanda is a great host. It is exceptionally clean and comfortable and I would highly recommend it."

"This cottage is set in beautiful surroundings and the property is immaculate. The owners have clearly spent a lot of time and money making this a very special place. Me and my four friends stayed to celebrate one of the group being 30. The booking process was very straight forward and Amanda, the owner, was very helpful in the run up to our stay. She even helped us to decorate the cottage with balloons and banners which was a lovely surprise for my friend. We couldn't have asked for more with the property, there was plenty of space for all of us and the hot tub really was great place to spend time in. Amanda also provided wine, prosecco, cheese and brownies which were really appreciated by us all. The farm animals around the property were really nice to watch and the goats Betty and Amy were very friendly and loved a fuss. The cottage is in walking distance to some lovely pubs. In particular the Red Lion on Jackson Bridge which did amazing food and had a lovely beer garden. The hot tub has a Bluetooth system which means you can play music through it, which is a really great extra however one thing to note, the owners live next door to the cottage and are quite strict with their time curfews on noise because of not wanting to disturb neighbours (although we couldn't actually see any neighbours other than themselves). Amanda mentioned to us on arrival that they had, had to tell a hen party to turn music down at 1am so clearly have had issues before. We however were extremely surprised on our second night (a Saturday) to be told by Amanda's partner at 10.25pm that our music was too loud and he actually turned it off whilst we were sat in the hot tub. This made us feel quite uncomfortable and vulnerable because we were five women in the dark, in our swimwear. The day after, having reread the hot tub instructions, it does state to keep the noise down after 10.15pm. As there isn't a clock in the hot tub area, and you obviously can't wear a watch, you can easily forget the time particularly when you are supposed to be relaxing and having fun. It would be beneficial for the owners to install a clock to help future guests with sticking within the rules. We given the property 4 stars as we don't want to take away from the positives of the cottage as we really did have a great time overall and a lot of what the owners provide is really thoughtful and adds to the experience. We did however think it was important to mention what happened as the cottage will attract groups because of it's size and the hot tub and the curfew maybe something you want to consider before booking. We would have loved to stay at the property again however because of how we were left feeling on our last night this is not something we will be doing."

"We had a short mid-week stay and didn't want to leave! Lots of love has gone into making this house stylish and comfortable and the hosts' extra finishing touches (cheese! brownies!) were hugely appreciated. Our six-month-old loved the farm animals, whilst we thoroughly enjoyed the hot tub in the evenings. It's in a lovely peaceful spot, great for a BBQ with family or friends in the evening with the sun going down over the gorgeous view. Nice pub just a short walk down the lane. We highly recommend it!"

"The Old Hay Barn (OHB) is a beautiful cosy property full of original charming features such as the wooden beams in the high roofs and the exposed stone walls. The property itself is placed in the heart of a stunning valley with superb views in all directions, especially from the luxury hot tub. Nearby there are a plethora of gorgeous scenic walks to take advantage of and a great little boozer in the village (10min walk from OHB) to call in on your way home. The pub in question is the Butchers Arms and serves great food and drink. Especially the Thai Taster Menu. The owners of the OHB Amanda and Darren are brilliant hosts and are always on hand if anything is required; for example - a bulb went in the bathroom and Darren was there within 30 minutes to change it. Plus on our arrival we had freshly baked brownies, local cheeses and continental wines awaiting us courtesy of our hosts. Would definitely return to the Old Hay Barn in the future and hope to soon."

"Stayed at this cottage for a long weekend to celebrate a friends 40th birthday. This is a gorgeous cottage which is decorated and set up to a very high standard. There is everything you could possibly need for your stay from milk in the fridge so you can make a cup of tea without having to find a shop first, to having a dog cage if you take one with you. The extras were a lovely touch, wine, cake and a cheese board. There was also a 'happy birthday' message on a blackboard and they had even put up 40 balloons. The owners were very friendly and helpful. Would definitely recommend a stay here."
