Reviews of Gatehouse Croft

"Gatehouse Croft is a historic building which has been imaginatively repurposed as a holiday let. It has ALL the facilities you could possibly desire. The ground floor living space is expansive, and each of the bedrooms has its own small sitting area. We did experience some noise from the local pub and social club. However, this is specifically mentioned in the description of the accommodation, and it is worth this minor inconvenience to stay in such a lovely place."

"The accommodation was of great historic interest. An old Abbey which had been refurbished in a wonderful, tasteful manner. The furnishings had been collected from good antique dealers and were superb in their settings. Although the bed was an old oak half tester it was wonderfully comfortable. It was a nice, quiet location in spite of the club and pub opposite. It was also very handy for the shops in Polesgate, and the shop just over the road had just about everything one would need. I am so glad we went there."

"For our son, a professional jazz musician, Christmas 2014 was a busy period, with gigs up and down the country. As a result, he could not make it home to the Isle of Wight from his house in Leeds. We therefore decided to celebrate a 'delayed Christmas' in mid-January and, in order to share the travelling, we agreed to meet at Polesworth, which lies about half way between the two. We rented the Gatehouse Croft for the weekend and had the most wonderful stay. The house is probably the best-equipped rental accommodation in which we have ever stayed and we lacked for nothing. With its mixture of Mediaeval structure and modern facilities, it was extremely comfortable and, indeed, on the coldest night of the year [minus 4 C], we were as warm as toast, thanks to the log fire and the under-floor central heating. The whole place was spotless and beautifully presented and we received the friendliest of welcomes from the custodian, Father Philip, who gave excellent guidance on shopping, sightseeing and walks for out two Golden Retrievers: Sherlock and Mycroft. The village itself has a good range of shops, including a small Co-op supermarket and a superb 'old-fashioned' butcher's shop, selling first class local produce. There is a good fish and chip shop near by but the real find was the American Diner, just down the road, whose burgers and milkshakes were first class. We will certainly visit again!"

"We liked everything! The location, ambiance and overall very high standard of the property - not to mention the friendly welcome - made for a most enjoyable break. Despite fronting a fairly busy road and an equally popular path through the abbey grounds, Gatehouse Croft was extremely quiet and relaxing. The beds were comfortable and, on the coldest night of the year we were as warm as toast. All that and the local area provided superb walks for our Golden Retriever! We will certainly be back."

"The Gatehouse is a very interesting property with a long history. The refurbishment has been made to a very high standard and we found that it is better equipped than many of the other cottages we have stayed in over the past few years. It was also very well maintained and very clean. We were particularly impressed with the little touches such as fresh flowers, toiletries etc. We hope to return and will definitely recommend it to others."

"Living only a mile away from this property we have watched the scaffolding erected and builders come and go and read about the lottery funded restoration of Polesworth Abbey gatehouse, so with friends from Lincolnshire coming to visit for the week it was a perfect excuse to book the property as a base to introduce them to the area - and oh boy, are we glad we did. This is one of the most amazing properties it has been our privilege to stay in. Full of character and charm you could feel the history in every beam, wall and rafter whilst enjoying the modern day comfort of under floor heating, free Wi-Fi and dishwasher. The welcome from Fr. Philip and his flock made us proud to say we were locals and we were amazed at the discoveries we made about our own locality and heritage. Situated on the Warwickshire/Staffordshire/Leicestershire boarder the property is an ideal base for days out to Bosworth Battle Field, the National Memorial Arboretum Drayton Manor Theme Park, Twycross Zoo and many more attractions as well as been about 45 minutes from Birmingham or Nottingham in you require a serious shopping day, Theatres etc. It should be noted that there are steep stairs to the top floor where the twin room is situated which would be unsuitable for young children or the less mobile. We are so pleased that we decided to 'holiday at home' - it was just fantastic and a place we would certainly recommend and can't wait to return to."
