Reviews of Bullace Barn

"A truly wonderful converted barn with everything you could possibly need for your stay. We were here with elderly grandparents and younger children and we all had a great time. Plenty of competition at the pool table, lots of movie nights where we could all crash out on the large and numerous couches, a big kitchen for lovely family meals, and 2 bathrooms. All set within beautiful surroundings meaning we could walk from the barn straight on to some fantastic walking routes. The owners were so lovely and welcoming and had plenty of information to share on things to do and places to visit. A perfect holiday. "

"Wow! What a lovely place to stay. It's for 7 and its huge just 2 of us for most of the stay. 9-16/6/17. A lovely warm welcome from the owner Jane and a very unexpected welcome pack getting the holiday off to an amazing start. Had a few chats with Jane and Marshall, they are both lovely and helpful, nothing is to much trouble. Although to be fair they get on with their day to day life leaving you alone. Sam our Border Collie settled but aged nearly 11 the long walks proved a little challenging at times Everything is catered for, no need to bring anything, the kitchen has everything you will ever need including a crock pot! So many cupboards so if you can't find anything just keep looking! Upstairs is the lounge and a bedroom very spacious indeed, 3 settees. All king size/super king size Beds very comfy indeed. The pool table was a plus, as was a selection of games and puzzles - it had everything. Lovely outside too, with a few areas to sit and enjoy the views or indeed get friendly with the horses and their owners. A great base to explore the countryside A local shop and pub on your doorstep but a couple of miles away in Penistone a Tesco. Visited the Dams, Holmfirth, Castleton and did a few of the trail walks. We had a takeaway from Village Tandoori, no menu sorry but you can find it off the Tinternet, it was lovely! Well guess by now you realise what a gem of a place this is. Can highly recommend, without any hesitation! Thank you Jane & Marshall for a lovely weeks stay. X"

"We stayed at Bullace Barn over the Christmas week and we had a hassle free, thoroughly relaxing and enjoyable week. With six adults, two young children and a dog the barn had more than enough room to accommodate everyone without feeling on top of one another. The barn has everything you could possibly need for your stay, a super kitchen which is equipped with loads of utensils and crockery. The table easily accommodates 8 and with visitors we had 11 around the table at one point! Again there is ample room in the kitchen for many people to mill around. The lounge is absolutely huge! With us visiting over Christmas this was ideal for the children to have all of their toys out and there was still plenty of room without it feeling cluttered. The pool room was brilliant and much enjoyed by all. The large utility room is ideal for storing shoes, boots, coats and for cleaning off the dog. There is also a garage lockup for those wanting to bring bikes. Location wise the barn is set on a 10 acre plot with horses right outside which is lovely to wake up to and a lovely viewing element. It is a 5 minute walk to the Pennine Trail (the bridge over the road as you come down the hill) which provides lots of easy walking or cycling routes. It took us 45 minutes with children and brief photo stops to walk on the trail to the Tesco's at Penistone. A lovely pub is 5 minutes walk up the road which serves food, although we didn't actually eat there so I cannot review that element. We sampled an Indian takeaway from Penistone, Taste of India, which was lovely both times we had it and The Generations cafe in Penistone is well worth a visit for lunch or coffee and a cake. Overall we have some fantastic memories from our stay at the barn and cannot fault it in any way. The owners live next door and were so helpful. We will definitely be back! "

Just outside the Peak District, but very close to the Trans-Pennine Trail for cycling and walking. The owners live next door, and are very helpful. There are horses stabled on site and in the adjoining field, and hens (and a cockerel) there too. Our teenage boys enjoyed the pool table, and the wifi and games console, while our daughter enjoyed visiting the animals, and our dog enjoyed the whole place (though we didn't allow her upstairs or in the bedrooms). Nothing bad to say - splitting hairs, the wifi doesn't work in a couple of the bedrooms, which the owners are trying to fix though the thick walls are a challenge, and with the windows open on the road side you can hear the traffic even though its 80 yards or so away. It is a quiet location yet 5 minutes drive from Penistone with supermarkets etc. Surrounded by fields, horses, chickens - it's ideal and very safe. We had our grandchildren stay with us for two nights and they naturally loved the place. The lounge is upstairs together with the master bedroom and ensuite. Downstairs there are two large bedrooms at opposite sides of the house - well planned if you had a couple of families staying there. The kitchen is excellent plus a large utility/laundry room too. "Just returned from Bullace Barn at Millhouse Green. What a find! The property is located down a long drive way just off the main road. The barn and surrounding farm and outbuildings are spotlessly tidy. The utility room is bigger than most folks kitchens! It's easier to use that door so you can dump all your boots and clutter in there. The kitchen is enormous!! There were sooo many cupboards, I think we've out everything back in the wrong place! It was very well equipped. The bedrooms, 2 downstairs and 1 upstairs were very comfortable with lovely furnishings. There are hairdryers with Diffusers! Every curly haired girls dream! I would've liked a bedroom mirror upstairs to see how diffused my hair was...! The lounge is huge. Plenty of space to chill out. There wasn't hot water all day but there was a boost button somewhere to over ride the system so it wasn't a problem and we quite enjoyed hearing a particular family member scream under the cold tap. The pool table is a bonus, we all had fun playing that, with the horses peering in to see what all the fuss was about. There's a few takeaway menus around, the Cherrydale delivered. We had the set menu for 3 and 2 but it was a bit bland and not enough. The White Heart pub and restaurant is a 10 min drive away. That was excellent food. A 2 min walk left up the main rd brings you to the Teans Penine path. Good for cyclists and dog walkers. All in all a fabulous break and wouldn't hesitate to recommend."

"The photos of Bullace Barn on the web site really do not do the barn justice and therefore upon arrival our first impressions were simply amazing! Everything is so much bigger than the pictures give the impression of being, and the barn is immaculate. The large kitchen diner is great for the whole family to be together while meals are being cooked and for sitting and eating together but we also sat and played games around the table and spent most of our time together in the kitchen. The kitchen is filled with pretty much every utensil you can think of and also included little extras like dishwasher tablets, fairy liquid, dishcloths, tea towels, tin foil, cling film, salt and pepper, food bags, bin liners and even some flowers, some of which we haven't had before when we have stayed elsewhere and we have stayed in a number of different places. I had a couple of questions to ask the owner before we arrived and Jane was very helpful. The welcome basket was a very nice and thoughtful touch also. The bedrooms are very comfortable with lots of storage, there is also a hairdryer provided and hand wash in the bathrooms. The pool table is a great added bonus, this is at the centre of the Barn and has the floor to ceiling window. With the first floor being open plan you can look down over the pool table from the balcony and also watch the horses who are sometimes directly outside the window. There is also a games cupboard. The living room is very comfortable and very light with lots of light from the large arched window coming in. The only criticism would be that the television is probably not in the best position, however we spent less than a couple of hours watching the television as we were either out and and about or sat together in the kitchen so it really wasn't a problem. I would have to be really very picky if I were to criticise anything else about the place as the Barn really did exceed our expectations and in our opinion is definitely worthy of its 4 stars. The location is great with the Trans Pennine Trail literally 5 minutes walk from the Barn and there are lots of short walks also in the local area which were perfect for us with a 5 month old baby. There is lots more to explore than we had time for and I am sure we will return at some point in the future. I would have no hesitation in recommending Bullace Barn to anyone. "

Before we went I did ring and enquire as to whether there was a slow cooker, as we like to use one for when we have days out walking, I was told that there wasn't one in the Barn at that time, that said, the owner had gone out and bought one before we arrived and the same also applied with my enquiry about a high chair. "Fantastic spacious barn, tastefully decorated with a really big lounge area, although the TV on the wall is set at a very awkward angle for some viewers (having said that we only used TV when it was raining!). Some areas of the barn were poorly cleaned (kitchen worktops and floors were were dirty) and there were several dead daddy long-legs splattered against some walls! Although it sleeps 7, the kitchen table is nowhere big enough, could only really seat 6 max. Need a wider selection of drink glasses, there was a real odd mixture (6 brandy glasses but few if any juice glasses?). Nice touch with the welcome basket. Really need a couple of airers to dry bath towels as there is nowhere to hang your towels after showering, which is pretty daft. But, the above said, a lovely setting and ideal for all the close walks. Great utility area for cleaning dogs/taking boots off etc., before entering the kitchen area. Just a bit more attention to detail/cleanliness and we would have awarded 5 stars. Good value for money, especially if two couples staying. Very handy pub within walking distance! Would probably return."

"We spent a week here in late September for the purpose of visiting relatives in the area. The barn sits on a smallholding where they keep sheep and horses, plus cats and some friendly chickens that will visit you at the door if they think you have food! The owner lives adjacent to the cottage and was there to greet us when we arrived. A very generous welcome pack was provided and the barn is huge, airy and beautifully appointed with all modern facilities including wifi. It was a pleasure to wake up in the morning and look out over the fields of grazing sheep and horses. There is plenty to do in the area. We particularly enjoyed Cannon Hall and Cawthorne village. Children will enjoy Cannon Hall Farm with its rare breeds which is a separate attraction. Holmfirth, home of Last of the Summer Wine is nearby. If you enjoy walking, the Peak District with its many picturesque reservoirs is on your doorstep and the Trans Pennine Trail runs very close to the property. The Langsett Reservoir is close by and has a lovely pub, famous for its pies, overlooking it. A bit further afield we also visited Haworth (home of the Bronte sisters) and the Keighley and Worth Valley Railway (where the original Railway Children was filmed), both very enjoyable. Also Nostell Priory (N.T.) The Elsecar Heritage Centre was rather quiet when we visited on a weekday but has steam trains running at the weekend. The nearby town of Penistone has a large Tesco for stocking up on groceries, plus a variety of other shops and a weekly market. We would thoroughly recommend Bullace Barn and would certainly stay there again."

"The accommodation was quite stunning. There was plenty of parking space for our two cars, and we were made to feel at home by the owners. There were a number of tourist attractions within easy reach by car, and access to the Trans Pennine Way was only a couple of hundred yards from the property."

"We were the lucky first guests at Bullace Barn. It's been decorated and kitted out to a high standard, beautiful furnishings, well equipped kitchen, comfortable and pretty bedrooms. There's a separate utility/boot room with washing machine, iron etc. We like to cook and the kitchen had pretty much everything we needed - there were a couple of suggestions we made to the owners eg a bigger frying pan, cafetiere, kitchen scales. But that was it. We were given a lovely welcome both by the owners and by their cats, who were quite keen to show us round the property ;-) There was a lovely welcome hamper on arrival with cake, cheese, bread, eggs. There's a fab little local shop about 10 mins up the road which is well stocked and also sells homemade pies and pasties. We liked best: cooking and eating together in the country style kitchen. The lovely view from the large window in the hall. Our visit to Yorkshire Sculpture Park. We liked least: the frustration of being in the upstairs lounge which is large and comfy but has no windows out on the lovely view."
