The beautiful South Shropshire countryside has so many attractions, and Wall-Under-Heywood is close to the Ironbridge Gorge, Stokesay castle, the Severn Valley Steam Railway and Acton Scott Historic Working Farm, to name a few. It is also just a few miles from the oldest pub in Shropshire - the Royal Oak in Cardington, which can actually be found in the Domesday Book. There is endless natural beauty to be discovered in this wonderful area too, and the Shropshire hills are perennially popular with walkers, cyclists, riders, ramblers and wildlife lovers of all descriptions all year round. The traditional and still-bustling market towns of Church Stretton and Much Wenlock are close to Wall-Under-Heywood, while the amenities and visitor attractions of busy Shrewbury and historic Ludlow are within easy reach. This is an excellent and sought-after holiday location with plenty to offer to suit a wide variety of tastes.

A E Houseman once wrote that Shropshire was "the quietest place under the sun" and today the county remains something of a rural idyll, recognised as one of the least crowded and most peaceful regions in England.

Reviews of Crispen Cottage

"Looking to destress and renew? Crispen Cottage has views across the peaceful gardens to the meadows, grazed by Donna's horses and away to the breath taking Shropshire hills. Yet this cosy comfortable cottage is close to local Pubs, restaurants, historical sites, towns and walks. Lucky with the weather we sat outside with a glass of wine and haven't felt so relaxed in ages! Thank you so much to Donna and Andy for making us so welcome."

"Beautiful cottage in lovely quiet location. Enjoyed walks and cycles in the countryside as well as visits to local attractions. Ludlow local market every other Thursday not to be missed - the town is gorgeous with the castle having an excellent audio tour. Accommodation was very well equipped, particularly for dining in, or outside in the sunshine. The owners had really thought about what people might need, which can be lacking in other rental cottages. Very comfortable, clean and spacious. We enjoyed fantastic weather but it was almost a shame that we couldn't enjoy the fire as it was too warm to light it. Wish we could have stayed for a month to enjoy more walks of the area - several hills were very tempting but we just didn't have the time! The owners are very welcoming and helpful. Nice to also have horses away from home - stopped me missing mine too much!"

There were lots of books about the locality and as we were there to walk, it was most helpful. The cottage is very well positioned for exploring the area- Church Stretton, Ludlow, Shrewsbury, Much Wenlock/Wenlock Edge. We hope to return!"

"We loved this little cottage; perfect in size for 2 people with everything we needed. A new kitchen and bathroom with high quality of appliances made it feel so lovely and a cosy living room with fireplace and the bedroom too of a very good standard with a large amount of wardrobe space.Everything we needed was there, from oven gloves to cookie jar!It was also beautifully warm, so much so that a wood stove fire was hardly needed. Nothing to fault it. The propietors next door were very helpful and friendly and the general feel of the place and grounds was that this is a lovely and special gem in the heart of the Shropshire hills. These- by the way- deserve to be explored, even in Winter, with beautiful hills and valleys and even a waterfall close by- that's if the view out of the window of the cottage is not enough! A walker's and country-lovers paradise."

The kitchen has everything you could need. The owners live in the same building, and although they are right next to you, the cottage lawn is separated with a gate & feels quite private. We would definitely want to stay there again & found it to be a fantastic location & base for walking. We discovered Shropshire to be a hidden gem for walking and countryside & have already recommended our friends to the area and property."

"We've stayed at Crispen cottage for one week in summer 2011. What we liked about this holiday home is i.e. the location, the very very well looked after garden, having the owners horses on the grounds and the lovely hosts themselves. By car you can easily access Church Stretton and the location is also very convenient for exploring other parts of Shropshire. Besides these very nice features, there have also been a few which could have been better, e.g. the furnishing and equipment of the cottage (it could do with a more modern kitchen, a more upmarket bathroom, a dining room table and better garden furniture). Saying that, we keep in mind, that this is a 3*-cottage and that, despite the missing modern-style and a touch of luxery, it is a cosy, charming accomodation. Therefore we'd still recommend it, especially, if a superb location, a beautiful garden and birds and other animals is, what you enjoy (we do!)."
