The garden is an ideal place to relax on warmer days and enjoy the peaceful setting with views towards Roova Crag and across Coverdale. Walks start directly from the village with footpaths and bridleways which criss cross the fields and open moorland or cycle the quiet narrow lanes winding through the valley. Carlton has a pub serving real ales and meals with a popular fish restaurant and village shop in nearby West Witton, Middleham famous for its race horses and castle, once the home of King Richard III is worth a visit along with the market town of Leyburn which has individual shops, weekly market, good choice of pubs and restaurants. Aysgarth Falls and Edwardian Rock Garden and Hardraw Force provide plenty of opportunity to discover the unique atmosphere of this stunning area along with the magnificent Bolton Castle, the Forbidden Corner and the renowned Wensleydale Creamery at Hawes.
