Reviews of Lower Court Byre

"This was a perfect home from home place for us. Beautiful garden, very well appointed spacious house and a warm welcome by the owner (complete with a gorgeous lemon drizzle cake baked by her Mum). Possibly the best self catering house/cottage we have stayed in. Most holiday homes have some element that detracts. This one didn't. Furniture, fittings, appliances were all of very good quality. Beds and lounge seating very comfortable. No corner cutting. Our Garmin satnav was invaluable as it is a little out of the way, although within striking distance of many places of note to visit - Stokesay Castle, Croft Castle, Berrington Hall, Ludlow, Knighton (Offa's Dyke) all within 20 - 30 minutes. Some points; Take care with some of the very minor roads that your satnav may take you through. We learnt to ignore any instruction for these and just waited for the satnav to reroute us to a B road or better. Keep the bird feeder filled up. The pesky critters empty it quickly but provide a lovely show. The large garden has a good sized pond with a little bridge. There is a pair of moorhens and elusive fish. All sorts of birds ( the owner has even provided a bird book to help with identification). Squirrels. The garden is gorgeous. The exit from the lane is a little 'blind'. (note to owner - a mirror may help). If you go to Stokesay Castle go to the Shropshire Hills Discovery Centre nearby - we found a nice walk from Stokesay. Ludlow Food Centre well worth a visit. Offa's Dyke Centre in Knighton; staff very helpful and you'll find good walks along stretches of the Dyke - fantastic views. Do try the local butchers, bakers etc. We were never disappointed and some of the local sausages were exceptional. Powys Castle is about an hour to the North - awesome gardens."

"We stayed here for a short break with friends. On arrival, after a lengthy drive we received a very warm welcome from the owners who live nearby. This is a delightful, well equipped cottage set in a lovely landscaped garden (with large pond and fountain). The cottage is as described in the literature and was modernised a couple of years ago. It is very comfortable and furnished to a high standard. The owners are most helpful and on hand to assist with any enquiries. As our visit coincided with the plum season, we were given a large dish of the fruit fresh from the orchard to go with the large delightful cake, freshly baked for our arrival. Overall, the accommodation is excellent with all rooms being of a good size and the furniture including beds most comfortable. However the twin bedroom could perhaps do with just a little more storage space for it's occupants. There is a table tennis table on hand if you fancy a game. A short drive away are Croft Castle and Berrington Hall (both NT). They are worth visiting but if using a Sat Nav take care that it does not direct you down the numerous very narrow unmade roads which may be short cuts but in the long run take longer. The Royal George in Lingen is a couple of miles away and is a typical village pub selling traditional ales and home cooked food. The menu is not extensive but the food is tasty and there is plenty of it. It is probably best to book in advance if you intend to go. In summary, a very pleasant part of the country to visit and a lovely cottage to stay in."

"The cottage is in a very quiet location, very peaceful and relaxing. The garden is particularly lovely, so much so that we didn't go out as much as usual, just staying put and enjoying the birds, dragonflies etc. in the garden. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would certainly recommend Lower Court Byre. "
