Reviews of The Smythy

"Firstly there's no signage on the road so the accommodation was difficult to find. When we couldn't find the turning to the farm and phoned the owners the female who answered was very abrupt and patronising. We had been told that the owners would meet us shortly after our arrival but this never happened, creating the impression that they couldn't be bothered. Inside "The Smythy" the oven was filthy and very slow, the fridge had a broken and wonky shelf, the television was faulty, there was no ventilation in the upstairs bedrooms which made them unbearably hot, fans should've been provided but they weren't. The bedframes under the mattresses upstairs where our children slept had not been cleaned for a long time as there were lots of old cobwebs, dead spiders, and live spiders. The shower in the bathroom should be wall-mounted, a shower curtain installed, and a non-slip bathmat provided. Showering proved to be very difficult and water escaped everwhere. The hot water was scaldingly hot which made dishwashing an unpleasant experience. A clock and some mirrors would be helpful (there is only one small mirror in the bathroom). The barbeque outside is tiny and inadequate for feeding a family. The petting-farm (which was promoted on the website) consisted of one chicken, one duck, one pig, and two donkeys. We thought that this was disapppointing. We ended our holiday early as we considered it a waste of time, effort and money."

"Had a wonderful little stay in a lovely rural setting. The barn was cosy and warm, a great choice for a few old girly friends catching up. It was in easy distance to walks, tearooms, nature reserves and pubs. Would love to return with friends and the rest of our families next time (there was lots of play space for kids!)"

"What a find !!!! We visited the barns and stayed at the Smythy in OCT 2015. It was amazing. So relaxing, back to basics, fun, happy and just a perfect holiday. I would really highly recommend this holiday for anyone who has children. There was so much for them to do in a safe environment. The woods were amazing, the trampolines excellent and the fire pit where we roasted marshmallows most evening's after 6 was something my children will never forget. The sheep in the field kept us company whilst we sat round the open fire. Just a perfect holiday. Thanks Kirsty and Josh."

"I would highly recommend this holiday location to anyone with young children. It was a holiday where the I pads actually came second to the swimming, the trampoline and roasting marshmallows over the fire pit. We had a fantastic time, it was brilliant. "

"Fantastic accommodation, especially for families. It was a great base for seeing local attractions but there was also lots to do on site. Will definitely be going back next year."

"A really lovely place to stay if you have youngish children! Lots for them to do, trampolines, tennis, swings, the friendly animals to meet, football, fishing and obviously the swimming pool, all in a quiet and very safe environment. This led to us being relaxed too which isn't always possible when you go somewhere new with 3 children aged 12, 11 and 9! The cottage itself had everything we needed for a week and the kids liked the loft style bedrooms especially. We will certainly look at staying in The Smythy again, as we had a wonderful week here and it was well priced for a family of 5. It was also our first time visiting this area but we will definitely come back as it's an incredibly beautiful part of the country."

"The owner was friendly and helpful without always being present. We were able to relax and use the facilities in peace as there weren't many other guests."
