Once an important medieval market town, the settlement of Milnthorpe is located in the southern Lake District between Kendal and Carnforth. Just a few miles from the seaside village of Arnside, evidence of Milnthorpe's history can still be found amongst the narrow lanes and historic buildings, illustrating a time before the motor car. Set in lovely rolling countryside, the area also offers many great outdoor activities including the Lakeland Wildlife Oasis with its tropical hall and butterfly house. Dallam Tower and Levens Hall - both of which are historic stately homes with deer parks, topiary and ornamental gardens - provide a great day out for visitors. Other excellent attractions include Leighton Hall, Sizergh Castle, the Great Lakes Aquarium, Windermere and Grizedale Forest – all of which are located within easy reach.

Impressive mountains, open fells and clear-water lakes, the Lake District has it all. From walking in the mountains to exhilarating watersports or just a gentle cruise on a steam-powered yacht, Cumbria is the perfect holiday destination.

Reviews of Greystones

"This was our second stay at Greystones and we will be booking again! A very spacious and welcoming cottage - spotlessly clean and very well equipped. The beautiful Kendal to Lancaster Canal is literally on your doorstep for miles of off-lead walking, and the stunning South Lakes are moments away by car. So much to offer for a family break and lots of local information to hand."

"Just returned from a week stay with friends joining ourselves for a couple of nights. Lovely clean well equipped cottage over 3 floors. Lovely bedding and towels, lovely warm accommodation. Thoughtful touch with the goodie pack when we arrived much appreciated from our hosts. Thank you. Gated area large enough for 2 cars and secure to let our dog outside. Nice walks close by for our morning walk before we set off to explore the area. Close to Kendal easy reach for with Windermere and national trust venues. We have managed to have a good week weather wise . would recommend to families or couples we loved it. Thanks again for letting us stay at your lovely cottage."

"We had a great stay at Greystones, there where 3 of us and the dog. When we arrived we had a warm welcome off the owner, who couldn't have done enough for us. There was milk, bread, biscuits and other goodies provided, which was a nice thoughtful thing to do. The accommodation was on three floors which was a bedroom and shower room with wc on the bottom floor, the middle floor was the kitchen/diner/lounge which was big enough for a large family. The top floor had another two bedrooms and shower/wc room. As holiday accommodation goes this must be rated high for self catering, I have stayed in a few and this rates as one of the best I have stayed in. There are supermarkets not to far away in Kendal and Milnthorpe, with a local shop and bakery closer. There are plenty of nice eating places nearby, most are dog friendly to. It's not just the Lake District close by, your not to far from the Yorkshire Dales and the Cumbrian coast."

"Can't praise this place enough. Even though its 'self catering' when we arrived they'd popped some fresh milk, coffee, fruit and biscuits in ready to get us set up. The whole cottage was immaculate throughout - the devil is in the detail and little touches like a big draw full of DVDs kept our 2 small boys entertained in the evenings... They also really appreciated the 'night lights' in the hallways that came on in evenings too! The facilities inside all felt top quality and we weren't left needing for anything, it comfortably slept 6 of us. The lady who ran the cottage was lovely and really keen to make sure we had everything we needed to have a great stay. 5 stars, highly recommended!"

"Good location for walks and sightseeing. Very close to road connections in the region; but still felt rural and quiet. We were made to feel most welcome by our host and found her to be very helpful. Cottage was lovely and very comfortable. Milton was a very picturesque hamlet; although driving down the narrow country lanes was a bit daunting at first, we soon got used to it and sussed out when best to avoid other road users. We were fortunate to enjoy wonderful weather, so made good use of it through day trips and scenic walks and really did not have time to visit any of the big house attractions or museums in the area. Good base for visiting the Southern Lakes and surrounding area."
