Location

The Cote is a welcoming semi-detached cottage on a livestock farm in a rural setting near Staindrop. It has one double room, one twin and a room with adult bunks. There is a bathroom, a shower room and a ground floor cloakroom. The kitchen has a dining area, and the sitting room is cosy and comfy. Outside is off road parking for three cars, and walks from the doorstep. The Cote makes a lovely year-round base for walkers or those hoping to enjoy the market towns, historic houses and beautiful scenery of this part of the country.

Closely associated with the fortunes of nearby Raby Castle and its owners is the pretty Teesdale village of Staindrop in the Yorkshire Dales. The castle, a monument that is open to the public, is one of the grandest in England. Extended and modified over the centuries, the heart of the castle is medieval with a walled garden and 200-acre deer park. Staindrop itself is home to many interesting shops, pubs and cafes, all set round its long village green. The popular market town of Barnard Castle is only five miles away, and is the setting for the Bowes Museum, in addition to its wide range of shops and tea-rooms. The area is a wonderful place for walkers and cyclists with numerous routes throughout the stunning scenery.

From heather-clad moors and limestone scars, to market towns and the steady pace of country life - the sublime Dales await you! Where else in Britain is it as satisfying to sit and do nothing as it is to explore the numerous pursuits on offer?

"What a lovely cottage! We were greeted by John the owner, who is very friendly and helpful. The cottage is very well equipped and in excellent condition. Field opposite is great for kids and dogs to run free all day, plenty of animals to see on the farm also. It's in a lovely location. Highly recommended "

"We booked through Sykes Cottages, whose properties we've used very successfully before. The Cote did not disappoint, the property was clean, cosy and well appointed: two great bathrooms with plenty of hot water plus a cloakroom/utility room, a spacious sitting room with three sofas - one each for me and my two girlfriends to crash out on at the end of a strenuous day out! The beds were very comfy - I slept in the room with adult sized bunks and got a really great night's rest every night. Good wifi service which we used extensively. Well equipped kitchen with lovely views. We enjoyed meeting the owners and chatting to them - thanks to them for showing us their own lovely garden :-) I would recommend it to anyone wanting a comfortable and modern home-from-home in the area - there's plenty to see and do there."

"The Cote is an attractive stone building set on a farm with great views out of all windows. The facilities are of high standard with the water from all taps being extremely hot, the underfloor heating also provides you with nice warm feet after a day out in the country, especially during the winter! The kitchen is well proportioned with ample cutlery and crockery. The wooden beams give it a nice "oldy" feel whilst still appearing quite modern. Beds are very comfortable and warm."
