The castle, a monument that is open to the public, is one of the grandest in England. Extended and modified over the centuries, the heart of the castle is medieval with a walled garden and 200-acre deer park. Staindrop itself is home to many interesting shops, pubs and cafes, all set round its long village green. The popular market town of Barnard Castle is only five miles away, and is the setting for the Bowes Museum, in addition to its wide range of shops and tea-rooms. The area is a wonderful place for walkers and cyclists with numerous routes throughout the stunning scenery.

From heather-clad moors and limestone scars, to market towns and the steady pace of country life - the sublime Dales await you! Where else in Britain is it as satisfying to sit and do nothing as it is to explore the numerous pursuits on offer?

Reviews of Corner Cottage

"From booking to arrival and all through our week away..everything was spot on. Very easy access and good communication from the owners. Real Christmas tree up for us all lit up on arrival. Flexible on our arrival time allowed us to come early Cottage was clean and comfortable...shower and king size bed exceptional.. log burner very easy to use too. Area really good. As a non driver the public transport links are easy from here. Bus stop near enough outside Butchers..spar...post office and tea room a stone's throw away. I went to Carol concert at the local church and was made to feel very welcome. Tv in quite a strange place....but it actually was good. In the cupboard. On top of all this.. corner cottage is extremely good value for money..."
