Reviews of Halfpenny Cottage

"On arrival at Halfpenny Cottage we were met with the owners who were just a delight, very warm and welcoming, we were made at home within minutes of stepping through the door. This is a 5 Star cottage with 5+ star owners who go above and beyond to welcome and help in any way if you do have an issue. Little touches like tea, coffee and sugar when you arrive, and soap on every sink unit add to the joy of being here. Oh and as a welcome, a fresh handmade cake was made for us which was delicious and very moreish. The accommodation is spacious and super clean, two bathrooms a godsend and a well equipped kitchen makes this a home from home. Space for two cars ... fantastic. The gardens to this property are beautiful and a joy to sit in, late evening all one can here is bird song. The view from the balcony is just beautiful. The property has an adjacent outdoor pool which guests have access to, and is private and secluded, and when the sun is out a real sun trap. A great place for a family holiday and a retreat from the rat race . Wifi is also included which was a real bonus especially for the teenage granddaughter. I cannot recommend this place enough its just beautiful and Harrowbarrow is far from the madding crowd, but within easy reach to everything you want. A great base for a Cornish adventure."

"Halfpenny Cottage is a wonderful place for couples and families alike. The accommodation is 5 Star and there was everything you needed. It's set in a peaceful location with beautiful scenery. The heated outdoor pool was excellent, with inflatables and toys to keep the children happy all day. There is plenty of garden space to just chill out or have a game of badminton etc. It's an easy commute to all the major tourist traps and there's plenty of informative literature in the cottage to help you decide. All in all this has to be one of the best cottages, an excellent place to stay whatever the weather. We were sad to leave, but will definitely be returning. You'd be mad not to book it!"

The Tesco store in Callington is just 5 minute drive away and really easy to locate. The owners Alan & Verona were there to greet us on our arrival. They are so friendly and helpful, but never intrusive. Thank you for the home made cake, the supplies of tea, coffee and milk was a nice touch after a long drive. All in all this is one of the best cottages, an excellent place to stay whatever the weather, sad to leave, but will definitely be returning again. You'd be mad not to book it !!!"

"A beautifully appointed property in a peaceful setting with lovely views. Being on the Devon/Cornwall border it is well placed to visit both counties. As we rented in the winter we were especially appreciative of the excellent central-heating."

"The cottage was itself a wonderful part of the holiday. It had everything that you would require to enjoy your stay. From a heated pool to loads of outdoor space and indoor amenities to be proud of. The area was easy to commute to the main tourist areas, including Lands End, The Eden project, Dartmoor, Looe etc etc. There was a massive Tesco's within 10 minutes and if you didn't feel like cooking there were restaurants within walking distance. As well as great restaurants in Tavistock - 15 minute car journey. The owners Alan & Verona were friendly, helpful and knowledgeable but never got in the way like some owners do, their tips and suggestions were great. Would love to return anytime. It was a wonderful break."

"We have just returned from Halfpenny Cottage. Being 5 adults and an 11 month grandson the cottage had everything we needed and much more. It is set in lovely surroundings with beautiful views from the cottage, where you can sit outside on the large veranda if you like. The amenities are tip top with the owners (Alan & Verona) kindly providing us little extras that you just don't expect i.e dishwashing & washing machine tablets. You are made to feel very welcome and on arrival we were greeted by the owners and a homemade cake had been left in for us, which is really thoughtful especially when you have been travelling a good few hours. The cottage has a lovely garden and a lower garden through a gate where you can play badminton or just sit in the summer house. We used the swimming pool which is solar heated and there are pool inflatables if you want to use them. It is lovely to have a swim or a splash around with the children on a hot day. There is a gas barby down by the pool area and in the garden a table with chairs to sit out alfresco. The area is ideal for both Cornwall and Devon, we visited Looe (approx 30 mins drive) and Bude (approx 45 mins) both lovely beach areas with some nice touristy shops. We also went to Cotehele the national trust property which is worth a visit. We had a lovely week and would recommend Halfpenny Cottage to stay, we would be more than happy to return and if we win the lottery ~ watch out Alan & Verona we are coming to offer you BIG BUCKS to sell to us. I think the only reason there aren't more reviews on tripadvisor for Halfpenny is because secretly we don't want everyone to know about it!!"
