Gunnislake lies on the banks of the River Tamar. It has village pubs and a small selection of shops. The village sits at one end of the scenic Tamar Valley Railway - with regular services to Plymouth.

Cornwall's visitors are constantly tempted back to the beautiful coastline, tiny fishing villages, hidden coves and the world-class surfing. Whatever the reason, Cornwall has long cemented its place as one of Britain's premier holiday destinations.

Reviews of 59 Valley Lodge

"Having just returned from here I have mixed opinions. The initial info that we could check in at 3pm (as written in the Sykes cottages e mail) was wrong and had to wait until 4pm (as per the owners information) but we were able to have a drink and wait in the bar and terrace area. When we got to lodge we found that others had been able to check in earlier and there was no parking near for us to leave the car and take the bags up, but we managed as our children are grown up more or less. The outside of the lodge the decking and balcony could do with a bit of tlc, the wood rails and decking needed a sanding and a coat of wood stain, and I strongly suspect that it hasn't been done this year. The hot tub is a huge + although from previous and other reviews it was meant to be checked everyday we only saw it being checked once and was told that they would return to put the chemicals in, unfortunately this did not happen and we had to go to reception and report it. We also reported a decrease in power of the jets, but are unsure if this was checked ; but our last night, the jets still maintened a lower power than previously. The inside of the lodge is very well equipped and maintained, although there is a damp smell downstairs particularly in the built in wardrobes, , the smell did lessen when I wheeled one of the electric radiators into the hall and put it on, it stayed on for the whole holiday The upside down living arrangements were fun, a good well equipped kitchen with a few starter bits ( tea towel etc) but what did make us chuckle, they also left 2 dishwasher tablets-there is no dishwasher lol. The kitchen does have a washer/drier which I think would benefit a young family The park is dog friendly, and our dog certainly enjoyed his stay, the downside is there is no enclosed area , so even being let out for a quick wee meant him going on the lead. There are some very nice touches in the lodge, like books, DVDs , colouring stuff and toys for the younger visitors I certainly enjoyed my early morning walk around the park with our dog, we saw squirrels and rabbits There is a poor mobile phone signal , and only wifi in the bar/pool area, this was not a big issue for the adults, the children(18 and 16) struggled and did make trips up to the bar area, and managed to find some signal in the lodge, but the outstanding views and tranquility are worth it. The lodge is a good base for being a tourist in Cornwall, with many walks, etc. My husband and I would visit again but maybe with adults that can do without the modern age phones and Ipads etc"

"We have just come back from a long weekend at 59 Valley Lodge and have had the most amazing time. The lodge has everything you can think of and has such a lovely homely feel to it. The owners have thought of everything with personal touches that made the place so welcoming. Without a doubt one of the bes kept lodges we have stayed in. The hot tub was a great way to relax in the evenings. Will definitely be returning for a longer stay so we can enjoy more of what Cornwall has to offer."

"the lodge itself is lovely, very warm, spacious and very clean a nice bottle of bubbly as a welcome and the owners of the lodge could not have been more helpful. They were the good points, we were told by Sykes that all the amenities were open at the time of booking, with only a 3 weeks to go before we went they told us the restaurant and the bar were not open then 2 weeks to go there was no cycle hire and no site shop. the site is in the middle of nowhere so with out transport you were in a fix, further more there was no apology from Sykes, we have had 3 holidays with this company and it will be the last. If you are not to steady on your feet I would not recommend the site as it is very hilly and and lots of steps everywhere, the nearest pub/restaurant is about 3 miles away down very dangerous lanes not advisable to walk. The actual site is very run down and needs a good make over. I would have loved to give this a good report just for the sake of the owners of the lodge but as you see I can not."
