The wonderful market town of Whitchurch has a great deal of ancient history. Recorded as a settlement called Mediolanum as early as Roman times, buildings within the town include examples of Medieval, Tudor and Georgian architecture, all in the shadow of the beautiful St. Alkmund's Church.

A E Houseman once wrote that Shropshire was "the quietest place under the sun" and today the county remains something of a rural idyll, recognised as one of the least crowded and most peaceful regions in England.

"Would recommend this holiday cottage to all types of guests. The views we're amazing and inside was clean, spacious and had everything you needed such as clean towels ,bedding etc The owner was more than welcoming by baking us the most gorgeous cake and scones! She also brought our two year son some toys to play with! It's always the extra touches like that make the holiday more enjoyable. "Jack's Cottage is beautifully furnished and well-equipped and the beds are so comfortable! We explored the local area as well as going further afield, and my family from USA visited Liverpool, Wales, Ironbridge and Chester. Our host was very helpful and friendly, and took the youngster in our group to collect his own breakfast egg! Local pubs and restaurants were recommended to us for meals out, but we also enjoyed making our own meals in the cottage."

"The cottage was furnished to a high standard and was very comfortable. The setting and views from the window were beautiful; it was very relaxing looking out onto the farmland. The patio was a little sun-trap! Some brisk walks across the footpaths enabled us to see the new-born lambs up close. A great place for a family holiday."

"Jack's Cottage was a delightful place to spend a New Year with the family. It was snug and warm. The standard of soft furnishing was excellent and the kitchen was very well equipped. Our host was wonderful. She made us feel really welcome and went the extra mile by baking us a yummy cake, researching destinations and local routes for my runs and even took my 89 year old Dad on a tour of the estate in the Land Rover. The estate is beautiful with woodlands, a lake (mere) and livestock. "
