Reviews of Disley Hall

"We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Disley Hall, and would absolutely recommend it to anyone looking for a stylish and cosy temporary home. We were a party of 4, we stayed for 5 nights and would very gladly have stayed for longer. Having read other reviews, we expected a single parking space for the property when we arrived, but we were pleased to find the owners have now extended this to a spacious, separate parking area, very close to the cottage and with space for several vehicles. Disley Hall is a cottage and retains many original rustic features, while also benefitting from comfortable furnishing, excellent heating, an enormous bathtub, modern bathrooms and a well equipped kitchen. Upstairs and downstairs areas are open plan, which is perfect for larger parties. The location of the cottage was ideal for us - it's far enough away to feel remote, but you don't need the car to get into the village for provisions, or to walk across to Lyme Park. We felt very welcome at Disley Hall from the start and throughout - property manager Matthew is professional but friendly, and is also nearby/accessible if ever required. The property is clean and very well maintained. We were delighted with our stay at Disley Hall - it was an easy, enjoyable experience, and we would definitely consider booking the cottage again."

"The cottage, in Higher Disley, is close to Lyme Park and the Peak District. It is ideal for walkers and general tourists although the access road is a little rough. The cottage has been very tastefully modernised and has all creature comforts. On occasional rainy days we were quite happy staying in. Matthew met us as arranged to show us round and lived close by in case we needed any help."

"What a gem! The place is absolutely lovely and the owners were great. We were a group of four adults and four children under three. Everything was clean, the kitchen was well equipped and the bedroooms were beautiful. The best thing though was the lovely enclosed garden which gets the afternoon sun and has beautiful views across the valley. We will be booking a return visit."

"Booked to spend new year with friends and really couldn't have anything better. The layout with big kitchen and wood burner was perfect for our jigsaw and lounge upstairs with amazing bedroom was perfect. A stroll down to the village where there is a choice of decent pubs and a short drive to pride and prejudice house. Will deflnately be back. Thank you to Matthews uncle Mark for sorting us out."

"Disley Hall is a tastefully-modernised old building with character. We found it clean, well-equipped and the linen and towels were lovely. I was with my retired family members and we all agreed that it was a great place to stay. As we enjoy walking in the countryside, this was an ideal situation for us. We spent two nice days around Lyme Park, a day at Ladybower Reservoir, walking around Edale and on The Monsal Trail. It was an enjoyable week staying in a very nice property."

"Disley Hall was a joy to rent. The location is perfect, not only to the lovely village of Disley with its excellent pubs and outstanding restaurants but to the Peak District grand houses such as Chatsworth, Haddon Hall, Hardwick Hall and Bramhall Hall. The crown jewel, though, which is just outside Disley, is Lyme Park. We went there three times during our two week stay. It was the location for the exteriors of the BBC series Pride and Prejudice. Disley Hall is one of the best-equipped houses we have ever stayed in and Matthew took excellent care of us. Highly Recommended."

"A beautifully renovated Grade 2 listed property. Luxuriously appointed and finished throughout to the highest standard. Stylish, comfortable, characterful. Helpful and attentive owners on site. Would stay again in a heartbeat, if only ... ... access and parking to the property were dramatically improved. Disley Hall is approached via an exceedingly narrow unmade and pot-holed road, Parking area (2 vehicles maximum) is very small and shared with neighbouring properties. We drive a large luxury saloon car fitted with low profile tyres, and found it virtually impossible to approach the cottage without grounding the vehicle. The grinding of metal on stone was matched only by the grinding of my teeth! The owners of Disley are aware of the difficulties and told me that they have plans to create a new, larger, parking area in a nearby location. Let us hope that they are also able to arrange for the approach road to be resurfaced also. Wonderful property. Lovely owners. Shame about the access."

"We held a mini 70th birthday party in the house and everything we needed was available. All the rooms are comfortable and spacious. We felt as if we were in the country yet Disley is just a short drive away. The house is walking distance to one of the walker entrances to Lyme Park. My younger daughter who lives in Germany rented the house and I stayed for 2 nights but spent 5 days up there as I only live twenty minutes drive away . My elder daughter stayed for 3 nights. My granddaughters loved the garden and the chicks that live close by."

The kitchen/snug is so welcoming with a log burning fire at it's heart, leading on to two bedrooms and separate shower room. The staircase leads up to a cosy lounge with log fire and through to a master bedroom en suite. The cottage is immaculate with everything thoughtfully included. The pretty garden has spectacular views and is cleverly planted, in addition, there is a table for outdoor dining. We would definitely love to return and would highly recommend this cottage."

"Entering the cottage was akin to walking into a fabulous magazine. I had my family staying with me at different times during the week and each and everyone, from the 5 year old to the 85 year old, loved the property. The living areas were spacious, enough for a birthday party including 10 of us and the three bedrooms were extremely comfortable, warm and inviting. The master suite was huge and had everything you could want and need. The whole cottage has been finished to a very high standard and I would defiantly stay there again. There was a real fire which was so warm, it was a pleasure to just sit and contemplate the day in front of it. There were two living areas and upstairs there was another fire place which was run by gas and was very efficient and warmed the room up very quickly. Loved it, THANK YOU!"
