Just 9 miles away lies the charming, coastal town of Berwick, boasting narrow streets enclosed within Elizabethan walls, excellent shopping and dining facilities and an interesting arts centre. The local area affords fantastic fishing, golf and riding opportunities and a fun-packed leisure centre, whilst the nearby resort of Spittal offers soft, sandy beaches, ideal for a relaxing afternoon.

Reviews of Gardener's Cottage

"Booked to stay for one week. Found mouse droppings under the kitchen sink on our arrival so placed a trap as my wife does not like mice. Caught our first mouse Saturday evening ! Sunday evening a second mouse ran across the living room floor, so we left. Returned on Monday to collect our possessions and discuss the situation with the owner. The owner told me that she thought it was reasonable to have mice in a country cottage and that I should have told her at the time of booking that my wife was afraid of mice and she would have declined my booking. Her husband told me they use electronic devices to repel mice in their own home but not the holiday cottages. Holiday ruined!"

"We wanted to 'get away from it all' and this cottage was great. It is set in woodland, but with good access to all the major visitor areas. This has been a very relaxed and enjoyable holiday."

"Exceptional Value for Money. Whilst not the swankiest of pads, the cottage is scrupiously clean and very well equipped, set in beautiful grounds with lots of wildlife. There is also space for two cars for each of the cottages, which is great if you are meeting up with friends or family. We got the warmest of welcomes from our host, Liz, who even left us a chocolate cake - despite this being only a three night booking. We had our jack russell dog with us, so it was also really handy to have a fenced-in patio area so I didn't have to worry about him reducing the abundance of wildlife. Liz sent us great directions and was on-hand to answer any questions we might have. Our first time to Coldingham Bay, which is only a short drive away - recommended by Liz; one very much appreciated as it was amazing with rockpools, a lovely sandy beach, free parking and fab walks. Would highly recommend a stay at this property."

"Loved Gardner's Cottage. Went with husband and Luna the dog. Small enclosed patio with bbq was a great place to sit in the evenings. Little patch of woodland over fence for Luna to run. Nice and roomy cottage which is well equipped. Steps up to front door. There are now two bathrooms. Bit of a drive for shops (Tesco near Berwick). Nice pub with food in village. Owners friendly and helpful. It is on the site of their art studio, which had an open weekend while we were there, so there were people walking around, but only until 4pm. Had to stand in garden for phone reception. Beautiful garden, and situation. Well recommended and would go again."

"What a lovely cottage (in the ad photos, its the one in shadow). Spacious and dog friendly. Well equipped kitchen. Comfortable living area (though we mainly sat on the patio). Surrounded by trees. Patio is enclosed by low fence. Over road from property is a footpath suitable for walking the dog in the mornings. Lots of space in the bedrooms and two bathrooms, one with shower one with bath. There is an ajoining cottage but you don't get any disturbance from it. There is also another property visible and the owner runs art courses, none of which is troublesome. Only downside - no shops for miles. But very nice pub - Allanton Arms(?) down the road. Owners very friendly. Mobile phone(text)/tablet reception outside - sometimes in the trees. Mobile phone calls on the road, outside the property. Steps leading upto property and narrow staircase - not suitable for wheelchairs or disabled. Great for visiting Lindisfarne, St. Abbs Head, Southern Upland Way."

"Potentially this is a good cottage. It's in a tranquil location but handy for touring the local area. It is a warm little cottage when the heaters are on but the hot water system needs reworking because it is lacking. The kitchen is quite well equipped but there aren't many mugs but the cupboards are far too high off the floor. The bed was comfy despite being 2 joined together. Loved the ensuite. Would go there again."

"Gardeners Cottage is surrounded by country lanes but civilisation if you want it is not far away. The cottage itself is in need of a makeover as its starting to look a bit tired around the edges and if this were done the cost would go up,as prices are reasonable now. The owners who lived in the ground s didnt bother you and just gave you the key on arrival .I feel a bit more effort could have been made with the presentation of the place as I said Id have a word with the cleaner who has nt cleaned in the corners for a few weeks! On the whole if you want somewhere to lay your head for the week near to Holy island its cheap and cheerfull."
