Reviews of Akeld Cottage

"I am almost reluctant to review this beautiful cottage as you may fill it up and next time I want to go it will be fully booked. The cottage is spacious and well equipped with a wonderful garden and views out over the countryside. Just around the corner you can access public footpaths to take you further into the area. There is a Co-Op open 7-11 everyday in Wooler and lots of other places to eat a short drive away. This is a great base for accessing the area with many popular attractions within a 30 minute drive - many just 10 minutes away. We took advantage of the free horse riding on offer and were made to feel very welcome there too. An excellent find at a great price. I loved it!"

"This was our second time at Akeld Cottage, I love the elegant sitting room, objets d'art and comfortable furniture. Also the efficient central heating and hot water supply; the superbly laundered and ironed bed linen; the dog friendly garden (a must); the view; the lovely neighbours and the nearby town..I could go on. I'll visit again for sure."

"Our week in this cottage was fantastic. Close to walks in the Cheviot Hills, to castles on the coast and to lovely driving on the country roads, this was a favourite. We arrived to find a welcome pack in the fridge and the heating was on, so coming in from the cold to this little cottage with food and wine provided was just magic! We had a night at The Red Lion at Milfield Village and found the food was superior to any pub food we have eaten. This cottage and this area thoroughly recommended."

Wooler is handy for supplies and the coast is a 30 minute drive giving access to sandy beaches which are also perfect for dog walking. Highly recommended for a perfect holiday."

"We love this cottage - the location is perfect for exploring the beautiful countryside around Wooler and is within easy travelling distance of the glorious Northumberland coastline. The cottage itself is warm and comfortable and copes with our family needs well. The dogs love the secure garden, and it is so nice to be able to let them run around and run off excess energy whilst looking at the wonderful views. The welcome pack of food makes breakfast on the first day here a very easy meal, and having central heating for our autumn stay is a real boon. Our daughter spends most of her holiday riding at the owner's stables 'Kimmerston'."

"Akeld Cottage is superb value for money; comfortable, unpretentious and in a wonderful location. The property was very clean, well stocked, and the gifts of a welcome pack and also a complimentary riding lesson were a wonderful bonus. Being in the scenic foothills of the Cheviots was great for walking, and the location was also an ideal base for travelling to the main Northumberland attractions, and also Scotland. Highly recommended for a wonderful holiday."

"This was our first trip to Northumberland, and after an extensive search for self-catering holiday cottages, we settled upon Akeld Cottage, and are very glad we did. It is located in the very scenic foothills of the Cheviots, which are ideal for walking into the stunning Northumberland National Park - which is full of wild- and bird-life. The cottage is a short drive from Wooler, where there is a very convenient Co-op store. It also makes for a perfect base to see some of the main Northumberland sites - Lindisfarne and the Farne Islands are within easy driving distance, and Edinburgh is just over 50 miles away. The cottage itself is well proportioned, well furnished and stocked, comfortable and unpretentious. The decor and furnishings are not the height of luxury, but they suit the property well, and are just what you need for a comfortable base. The garden is very well maintained and has a wonderful area for eating outside. It is part of a small complex of cottages, and the neighbours were all very friendly, and it was very quiet and peaceful. There is a great master bedroom with double bed, a twin room, and a room with a bunk bed, all of which slept three adults comfortably. There is only one bathroom and the shower is not that powerful, but it does the job, and with a bit of negotiation it is easy enough for a family to work out the morning shower run! Lastly, we were greeted with a generous welcome pack, and also given an amazing deal at the owner's horse riding centre, which is also highly recommended (Kimmerston Horse Riding Centre). We could not have asked for more from our holiday rental, and this was excellent value for money. Highly recommended."
